Chris: Yeah, GPS info is available in the Lonely Planet guides and even the Kazakhstan Tourist site has some coordinates. But for the average tourist that doesn't help very much.

Working on comments on the Tourism page--hadn't realized that it wasn't allowing comments. Oops!

If anyone has any national POI lists for Kazakhstan, with interesting places that others might like to visit, that would be a good start. If people are using different manufacturers, when it comes to GPS devices, there are plenty of free utils available to convert from TomTom to Garmin, for example. Failing that, I'm happy to help out.
Buried somewhere in my phone I have a small list of Astana based ones, but many of them are more 'survival' type places - shops, bars, good places to get taxis from etc., rather than beautiful areas.
It might be worth checking out Google Earth and seeing what sort of info is available from the various tickable info sources on the left...
One thought, will the Tourism page allow comments, if not, you might want to link back to this or another post so people can leave comments in one central area.
